birds chirping, gurgling water White Pines is one of the crown jewels
of our park system here in Illinois it’s one of our oldest state parks that we have the White Pines has a long history of being recognized as a unique natural
treasure (geese honking) (Elmer Stauffer site superintendent) White Pines Forest State Park is special place because of the white pine
trees that we have here this is one of the southern most stands of what we call
virgin white pine trees in the midwest we like to catch fireflies at night wouldn’t that be fun don’t you like to catch fireflies in the summer the Civilian Conservation Corps also built 13 overnight log cabins and three 4
room log cabins at the lodge is a gift shop there’s a restaurant there’s a
dinner theater enjoyed by the public (chirping birds) (rushing water) here you can drive your car right through the creek we have these structures called fords and it’s something that people
always remember about the park (chirping birds) yea the big ones are out in the middle okay (gurgling water, slapping of shoes on rocks) we have 385 acres that make up the park here and there’s five miles of hiking trails our
hiking trails go through the woods go along the stream they go along the
tops of our bluffs (chirping birds) (gurgling water) White Pines Forest State Park is located
about two hours west of Chicago in the really big attraction for this park is
the opportunity to come and relax especially if you live in a larger city
and you’re just looking for a place that’s really quiet and peaceful and
beautiful White Pines State Park is the place to come (honking geese)
